With reference to my despatch

49 of this date, in which I informed you that His
Excellency the Governor of Macae and His Mest Faithful Majesty's Minister to China attended officially at the Memorial Service for Her Most Gracious Majesty sur late Queen, although suffering at the time from indisposition I propose, if you have no objection, to return His Ex- cellency's Official Visit and to thank His Excellency for his touching evidence of his personal condolence and the good feeling that happily exists between our respec- tive Countries. I shall assume that if you have any objection to this course you will inform me by telegram.
